Vaqueras Win ACCAC D1 and Region 1 Championship

The cross country teams competed at the ACCAC/Region 1 Championship hosted by Paradise Valley Community College on Friday in Gilbert, AZ. The meet, which consisted of Division 1 and Division 2 junior college programs, was the sixth meet for both the men and women teams.
"As a team, I wanted the men and women to work together and encourage each other" Stated Head Coach Jon Harmon. "I purposely held out some of my top runners from both the men and women's team because our motto from day 1 of season was that we are only as good as our last runner to cross the finish line."
For the fifth time this season, the women were led by Lillian Kamm. Lillian toured the 5km race in 19:58.10 which was good enough to claim 8th overall and 1st in Division 1. "The ladies, as a team, worked exceptionally well together." Stated Harmon "I told the ladies that we needed to set a positive tone for our upcoming championship meet and each lady responded well to the challenge."
Rounding out placing for the Vaquera's were:
Hannah Hammer 20:13.00 (10th Overall) and 2nd place in Division 1.
Tyara Hernandez 20:14.00 (11th Overall) and 3rd place in Division 1.
Emerson Young 20:58.20 (15th Overall) and 6th place in Division 1.
Larisa Hernandez 20:58.70 (16th Overall) and 7th place in Division 1.
Joyce Hernandez 21:23.00 (21st Overall) and 9th place in Division 1.
Faith Martinez 26:19.20 (47th Overall) and 19th place in Division 1.
The Women Placed 3rd overall out of 6 Teams, a total of 52 athletes competed. The Vaqueras had a 20:28 team average from 1-5 and a 1:00 minute spread.
