Vaqueras Place 13th out of 26 Teams at the UCR Open
Saturday,
Central Arizona's Cross Country Teams competed at the UCR Invitational hosted by the University of California Riverside on Saturday in Riverside, CA. The meet, which consisted of NCAA D1, NCAA D2, and a handful of two year programs, was the third meet for both the men and women teams.
Central Arizona won the meet for the men in the open section while Fresno Pacific (NCAA D2) took top honors for the women.
"I enjoy coming to this meet because we get to compete against some local universities from the California and New Mexico areas." Stated Head Coach Jon Harmon "It's also a good opportunity for the teams to get personal bests in their distances raced."
The Vaquera's had a new frontrunner at this meet, Hannah Hammer. Hannah toured the 5km race in 18:57.20 which was good enough to 60th overall and also set a new personal best. Hannah's time places her as the 10th best time on the UCR course among CAC athletes. "I'm proud of Hannah for her performance today." Stated Harmon "She has come a long way from just a few months ago, her speciality is the 800 meter but now has completed in her second 5k ever and is already sub 19 mins." "The ladies team had to step up without one of our top girls racing today and they did just that. This group competes each week and the results are showing, we had some good time improvements today."

Larissa Hernandez 19:36.40 (121st Overall) and a new personal best.
