Cross Country Opens Up Season at the George Kyte Invitational

Central Arizona's Cross Country Teams competed at the George Kyte Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University on Saturday. The meet, which consisted of NCAA D1 and NJCAA programs, was the season opener for both the men and women teams.
Northern Arizona won the meet with both perfect scores of 15 for the men and women. NAU's Men are ranked 14th in nation for NCAA D1 and the Women are ranked 10th.
"It's very humbling to come to this meet and compete against all the major universities in the state" Stated Head Coach Jon Harmon who begins his 15th Season with the program. "We approach this race as a tool to see what path we are on and what adjustments we need to make moving forward."
The Vaqueras were led by Freshman Lillian Kamm, who toured the 2.5 mile race in 17:19.60 which was good enough for 42nd overall. Lillian's time places her as the 3rd best time on the NAU Short Course among CAC athletes. "I'm proud of Lillian for her performance today." Stated Harmon "We had a plan for most of the ladies and she followed the plan how the coaching staff wanted." "She will continue to improve each week as she continues to develop in this sport."

Tyara Hernandez 17:26.70 (44th Overall) 4th Best Time on the NAU Short Course Among CAC Athletes
Hannah Hammer 17:44.20 (50th Overall) 5th Best Time on the NAU Short Course Among CAC Athletes
Emerson Young 17:59.10 (54th Overall) 7th Best Time on the NAU Short Course Among CAC Athletes
Joyce Hernandez 18:25.80 (59th Overall) 9th Best Time on the NAU Short Course Among CAC Athletes
Larisa Hernandez 18:47.20 (61st Overall) 10th Best Time on the NAU Short Course Among CAC Athletes
Reshila Curley 18:50.00 (62rd Overall)
The Women Placed 7th Overall among 10 Complete Teams with a 1:06 second spread among 1-5 and a 1:30 second spread among 1-7.
