Mickayla Gardner Wins 200 Meter Indoor National Title, Augustine McCabe secures 5th Overall in Triple Jump

A select group of men and women who qualified for the 2026 NJCAA Indoor National Championship competed on Saturday, the meet was hosted by Washburn University. The women were lead by a strong individual performances from Mickayla Gardner, Sophomore, who helped CAC score 15 total points across multiple events.  The women would end up finishing tied for 14th overall with Butler Community College with 17 points.  Iowa Western won the meet with 111 points scored.

For the men, the 4x400 team and Augustine McCabe; Freshman, would score 4 points each which placed the team 22nd out of 32 teams.  Barton County won the meet with 75 points.

Results:

60 meter Men:

Ja'Morris Edmonds-6.87, which is a season best. Ja'Morris placed 20th out of 29 athletes.  

60 meter Women

Mickayla Gardner-7.32, she placed 4th overall out of 41 athletes and secured 5 points for the Vaqueras.  Mickayla ran 7.28 in the preliminaries which is a new personal record. 

Ariana Carry-7.54, she placed 10th overall.

Shaquania Jacobs-7.68, she placed 21st overall.

200 meter Women:

Mickayla Gardner-23.44, she won the 200 meter NJCAA Indoor Title out of 31 athletes. She secured 10 points for the Vaqueras.

Arianna Carry-24.62, she placed 16th.

Shaquania Jacobs-24.85, she placed 20th.

400 meter Men:

Antonio Carrola-47.86, he placed 18th out of 38 athletes. 

Bryan Thomas-48.24, he placed 25th. 

600 meter Men:

Donovan Davidson-1:19.39, he placed 10th out of 27 athletes.

800 meter Men:

Emmanuel Simiyu-1:56.93, he placed 30th out of 39 athletes

800 meter Women:

Hannah Hammer-2:19.62, she placed 15th out of 22 athletes. Hannah's time was a season best and is the 6th best time run all-time by a CAC Athlete.

1000 meter Men:

Joel Barros-2:35.04, he placed 22nd out of 28 athletes.

1000 meter Women:

Tyara Hernandez-3:11.71, she placed 19th out of 25 athletes.

1 mile Men:

Carson Wetzel-4:18.85, he placed 21st out of 28 athletes.

4x400 meter Relay Men:

Bryan Thomas, Donovan Davidson, Richard Hall, Antonio Carrola-3:09.77, the team placed 5th out of 21 teams and secured 4 points for the Vaqueros. Their time qualified the team for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championship and was a season best.

4x400 meter Relay Women:

Faith Martinez, Ariana Carry, Shaquania Jacobs, Mickayla Gardner-3:54.70, the team placed 13th out of 17 teams. Their time qualified the team for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championship and was a season best.

4x800 meter Relay Men:

Joel Barros, Marcus Carter, Carson Wetzel, Emmanuel Simiyu-7:43.11, the team placed 10th out of 17 teams. Their time qualified the team for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championship, was a season best, and is the top time run all-time for the indoor season.

4x800 meter Relay Women:

Tyara Hernandez, Lillian Kamm, Larisa Hernandez, Hannah Hammer-9:41.03, the team placed 7th out of 14 teams and secured 2 points for the Vaqueras.  Their time qualified the team for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championship, was a season best, and is the 3rd best time run all-time.

DMR Relay Men:

Joel Barros, Bryan Thomas, Emmanuel Simiyu, Carson Wetzel-10:05.62, the team placed 10th out of 17 teams. Their time was a season best and is the 2nd best time run all-time.

DMR Relay Women:

Tyara Hernandez, Faith Martinez, Hannah Hammer, Lillian Kamm-12:40.06, the team placed 11th out of 14 teams. Their time was a season best and is the 2nd best time run all-time. 

High Jump Men:

Kwontis Davis-1.99m, he placed 11th out of 28 athletes.

Triple Jump Men:

Augustine McCabe-15.25m, which is a season best. Augustine placed 5th out of 14 athletes and he secured 4 points for the Vaqueros.

Weight Throw Women:

Shyla-Mae Constable-15.47m, she placed 11th out of 25 athletes.
