Vaqueros and Vaqueras Shine at CAC Home Invite

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Central Arizona College Track and Field program took full advantage of the home-track atmosphere on January 31, 2026, delivering a slate of national qualifying marks and personal bests. Leading the charge was Antonio Carrola, who highlighted a massive day for the Vaqueros by punching his ticket to the national championships.

Sprint Standouts: Carrola Sets the Pace

The spotlight belonged to Antonio Carrola, who displayed incredible speed and recovery throughout the day. Carrola opened his afternoon in the 60m, sprinting to a season-best time of 6.86. Shortly after, he returned to the track for the 200m, where he officially qualified for the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a blistering 21.50.

The Vaqueras were equally dominant in the sprint events:

  • Mickayla Gardener claimed victory in the 200m with a time of 24.22 and added a third-place finish in the 400m (58.96).
  • Arriana Carry took the top spot on the podium in the 400m, winning the event in 57.84.
  • Shaquania Jacobs earned her national qualifying mark in the 60m, finishing third in 7.67. She also rounded out a strong day with a third-place finish in the 400m (59.29).

Distance and Middle Distance Grit

The distance crew showed impressive depth, particularly in the 1000m. Joel Barros led the Vaquero contingent with a second-place finish (2:32.89), followed closely by Carson Wetzel, who took third with a time of 2:33.29.  Joel has the 3rd fastest time run all time by a CAC athlete and Carson has the 6th fastest time all time by a CAC athlete.

Other notable performances included:

  • Hannah Hammer: Earned a podium spot in the 1000m, finishing third in 3:06.73.  Hannah qualified for the NJCAA National Championship with her performace and has the 3rd fastest time all time by a CAC athlete.
  • Reshila Curley: Clocked a personal best in the 3000m with a time of 11:05.39. Reshila has the 12th fastest time by a CAC athlete.
  • Donovan Davidson & Emmanuel Simiyu: The duo took second (1:21.86) and third (1:22.01) in the 600m.  Donovan has the 6th fastest time all time by a CAC athlete and Emmanuel has the 8th fastest time all time by a CAC athlete.
  • Fausto Piancola: Finished fourth in the mile run, crossing in 4:31.59.

Field Events: High Marks and PRs

The Vaqueros found success in the air and the rings. Kwontis Davis soared to an NJCAA qualifying height of 1.99m in the high jump, earning a third-place finish.

In the throwing circles:

  • Shyla Constable recorded a season-best 15.79m in the weight throw to finish second.
  • Wilbert Green had a standout afternoon, taking third in the weight throw (14.37m) and third in the shot put with a new personal best of 13.65m.

Up Next: Gaucho Indoor Invitational

The Vaqueros and Vaqueras will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Glendale, AZ next week. Central Arizona is scheduled to compete in the Gaucho Indoor Invitational on February 6th and 7th, hosted on the campus of Glendale Community College.
