Central Arizona College Track and Field Competes at the Gaucho Invitational

4/10/21

The Central Arizona College Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams competed at the Gaucho Invitational on Saturday, held at Glendale Community College.  The meet consisted of every ACCAC team, which has become the norm at each meet since schools are not permitted to compete against non-conference schools with COVID-19 measures in place.  Nonetheless, the Vaqueros and Vaqueras continued to make the most of their opportunitites and continued to have solid individual performances, battling 93 degree heat and a slight headwind.

For the men, a new member was added to the qualifying list as Davin Soto competed in the 3000 meter steeple chase, running a time of 9:59.53, respectively.  Other notable finishes included Trayvion White-Austin (10.53 100 meter, 21.22 200 meter, 6.93m LJ), Thomas Soriano (1:55.37 800 meter), Kamijah Carter (15.06 100 HH, 54.92 400 IH), Jaelan Stewart (1.93m HJ) and the 4x100 relay team (41.34).

As for the ladies, the dominance of Princess Kara (50.46m Discuss, 13.01m SP) and Precious Robinson (18:06.24 5k) continue to set the winning trend in their respective events.  Other promising finishes include Olumurewa Olalere (12.46 100 meter), Salomay Agyei (25.26 200 meter, 57.00 400 meter) Kwanda Knight (15.04 100 H), Rachel Rose (1:09.23 400 IH) and the 4x100 relay team (48.04).

"I'm very proud of the men and women today, it was a hot day but they made the most of it.  It's difficult competing against the same teams each week when schools across the country are heading up invitational and bigger meets but we will continue to make the most of each and every opportunity" Stated Distance Coach Jon Harmon.

Central Arizona will be back in action on 4/16/21 at the Mesa Invitational, which will also conclude the regular season as the remaining two meets are the ACCAC Regionals and NJCAA Nationals.
